Pre Cast A holding tank can be approved for use when the size of your property does not meet the requirements to accommodate an on-site septic system. This is common for undersized water front properties. The desire to have inside plumbing as opposed to the traditional privy, a holding tank is an excellent selection. As defined in the On-site Sewage Disposal Systems Regulations of Nova Scotia. "Holding tank" means a closed watertight receptacle that is designed and used to receive and store sewage prior to collection by a septic tank cleaner. A high liquid level alarm is placed in the tank to give notice by sound or light that the tank is reaching maximum capacity and will need to be pumped out. The alarm is set at a level that allows several days usage until the pumping contractor is able to be on-site.
